Travel

Depending on which country you are choosing to travel to, the requirements are as follows:

1. Rabies Vaccine

Rabies vaccination is a legal requirement for all dogs in Hong Kong, and is directly linked to their dog license, so that AFCD can monitor and ensure all dogs are vaccinated.
Hong Kong is classified as a rabies-controlled country which makes it easy to travel in and out of without the need to quarantine.

2. Annual vaccinations

Annual vaccinations are required by some but not mandatory for all countries. It is, however, recommended, as your pet will be in close quarters with other animals during the flight. This reduces the chances of your pet catching something during the flight.
*Global Paws' can arrange a home visit by a vet to ensure all required vaccinations are up to date.

The above vaccinations can be done either with our vet during home visits or directly at AFCD Animal Management Center - they have a few branches across Hong Kong - cheapest and quickest option, no need to make an appointment just turn up with your dog (you must be the owner) and license during their office hours.

AFCD AMD Locations, Opening hours: 09:00-13:00, 14:00- 16:30 (daily)

3. Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT)

The RNATT test shows if your pet has effective immunity (antibodies) against Rabies.
This has to be done before departing Hong Kong, and is required to enter some countries (such as Hawaii, Japan, Singapore) as well as re-enter Hong Kong from Group II countries - this is to waive the 180 days residency requirement.

This can be time consuming as your pet may fail the first time around, which will require re-vaccination and a waiting period of 30 days before we can run another test to ensure the levels are reached.
For some countries there is a waiting period of 3 to 6 months after the test before you can enter the country.

4. Import Permit

This is necessary for some countries and Global Paws can help you apply and arrange this for your pet.

5. Health Certificicate

This is required for travel and a home visit can be arranged by Global Paws to see your pet at the comfort of your home to complete a pre-flight health check.
The necessary export and import documentations will then be arranged for your pet.

Depending on the country you are planning to travel to, we recommend planning at least 8 months ahead of time. This allows time for repeating RNATT tests and any out of date vaccinations.
