Things to do in Taiwan - Discover Taiwan’s pet-friendly side with this ultimate guide! From serene parks to bustling city attractions, Taiwan offers a range of experiences for you and your furry companions.
If you and your furry friends love strolling through lush greenery or enjoying a cozy café, these activities are perfect for creating cherished memories with your pets.
So, if you are looking for fun things to do in Taiwan with your pets, you are in the right place.
Why Taiwan is a Pet-Friendly Destination
Taiwan is becoming one of Asia’s most welcoming destinations for pet lovers. With progressive pet policies, clean public spaces, and a growing number of pet-friendly cafés and hotels, it is no wonder more travelers are exploring Taiwan with their animals.
Public transportation is increasingly pet-inclusive, with many taxis and trains allowing small pets in carriers. Parks often have dedicated dog zones, and some malls and hiking trails welcome well-behaved pets.
If you plan to explore things to do in Taiwan with your pets, rest assured you will find it more convenient than expected.
Top Things to Do in Taiwan With Your Pets

1. Explore the Green Oases of Taipei
Taipei is full of beautiful green oases and is super pet-friendly. If you have a high-energy husky or a chill senior shih tzu, there is a spot for both of you to stretch your legs and soak in fresh air.
Dog-friendly parks? Oh yes. Check this out!
a. Daan Forest Park
Taipei has loads of them! One of my favourite things in Taiwan is walking a dog in Daan Forest Park. Think of it as Taipei’s own Central Park. It has vast grassy fields, shaded walking paths, and even a peaceful little pond—perfect for tail-wagging strolls!
b. Yingfeng Dog Park
Off-leash zones? You bet. Some parks even have special areas where your dog can run around leash-free. Yingfeng Dog Park in the Songshan District is a local favorite. It is a canine playground where pups make new friends. Humans get a break, too.
This place is a dreamland for dogs! It is a whole hectare of tail-wagging heaven, with separate spaces for tiny floofs and big boofers.
Picture your pup dashing through grass, making nose-to-nose intros with new pals, splashing in mini pools, and mastering fun obstacles like tunnels and seesaws. It is not just a park; it is a doggie amusement park.
c. Riverside Park
Other things to do in Taiwan? Riverside Park along the Tamsui and Keelung Rivers is a good one. Here, you will find long stretches of green paradise that are super welcoming for your furry sidekick and scenic for humans.
It is spacious and breezy and a great place to let your dog run wild (in the best way). And some even roll out the red carpet with designated dog zones for safe, tail-wagging fun. Small pup? Big floofer? No worries. They have separate areas, so everyone plays nicely.
Not only that, but many of these riverside hangouts come with poop bag stations and cleanup spots, making life just a little easier for dog parents. So take that relaxed riverside walk, let your dog sniff to its heart’s content, and enjoy some open-air bonding time.
2. Take a Scenic Ride on the Maokong Gondola
Are you planning a trip on the Maokong Gondola with your furry bestie? Hold that leash for a second. While the views from the Maokong Gondola are breathtaking, it is not exactly a pet-friendly free-for-all.
Pets are technically allowed, but only if they are tucked into a carrier and not just any carrier! There are some pretty specific rules you will need to follow, such as:
Size matters: Your pet’s container cannot be bigger than 43cm x 32cm x 33cm (yep, they are that precise).
Safety first: The carrier must be leak-proof, secure, and fully enclosed, with no tiny noses or wagging tails sticking out.
No zoo days: Are you planning to hop off at the Taipei Zoo? Sorry, pets are strictly not allowed inside.
Oh, and there are a few other general restrictions, like no smoking, so it is always smart to double-check the latest info with the gondola staff before heading out.
So yes, your pet can join you for that sky-high ride if it is cosy, contained, and follows the rules!
