Importing Pets to United States:
Requirement and Timeline
Preparation Time: 1 - 2 months
ISO Microchip: Implant a microchip before rabies vaccination.
CDC Dog Import Form: Complete this form along with the receipt.
Country Eligibility: Dogs must have been in rabies-free or low-risk countries for the last 6 months.
Additional Import Permit: Required if the dog has been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months.
Rabies Vaccination Certification: A USA-issued certification is necessary.
USDA-Endorsed Export Health Certificate: Required for USA-vaccinated dogs from high-risk rabies countries within the last 6 months.
Valid Rabies Serology Titer Report: Must be from a CDC-approved laboratory if not included on the CDC Dog Import Form.
Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Certification: Provided by a licensed veterinarian and endorsed by a government authority for foreign-vaccinated dogs in high-risk rabies countries within the last 6 months.
Age Requirement: Dogs cannot be less than 6 months old upon arrival in the USA.
Health Certificate: All documents must be in English or have a certified English translation.
No Quarantine: For dogs from rabies-free or low-risk countries.
Additional Requirements for Foreign-Vaccinated Dogs from High-Risk Countries:
- Certification of Foreign-Issued Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Form.
- Reservations at a CDC-Registered Animal Care Facility.
- Serology Titer Requirement: No valid rabies serology titer means mandatory quarantine reservation for 28 days total.
- A certified translation issued by a licensed translator must accurately represent the original documents.
